Mains D’œuvre @ Palazzo FENDI - Rome

UN ETENDARD GEANT, composé d’une mosaïque de 6300 pixels de tissu pour défendre l’idée de fabrication locale. Mains d’Oeuvre est le résultat d’une chaîne de production dirigée par Pascal Gautrand en collaboration avec 5 étudiantes de l’Accademia di Moda e Costume di Roma, pour créer un patchwork unique mesurant 9,5 x 12 m, obtenu à partir de vêtements taillés en carrés (16 x 16 cm), et assemblés entre eux pour mettre l’accent sur la culture de la fabrication. La pièce recompose l’image d’un fil qui court d’une main à une autre : un symbole de la transmission des savoir-faire artisanaux locaux et de l’échange clients-artisans que le système actuel du prêt-à-porter ne permet pas.
THE CONTEMPORARY FASHION SYSTEM is based on image, leaving aside the values linked to the idea of manufacturing. However, at this historic moment when there is a desire to safeguard the values of Italian excellence and, on a European level, everything possible is done to trace the origin of garments, in Rome there still exists a widely developed tradition of local manufacturing with a network of artisans capable not only of producing garments and accessories but, at the same time, of offering interaction, a listening ear, interchange and the direct exchange of ideas with the customer. A solid microsystem, capable of offering that which the industrial system, despite having all the means, is unable to give us, namely value added which establishes a cultural exchange and a human rapport which puts the manufacturer and customer on an equal footing.
